To the Moon & Back

To the Moon and Back is a jazz-filled marching band show exclusively featuring songs with the word “moon” in the title. More importantly, the show lends itself to themes of both adventure and love. The upbeat “Moon Theme” from the DuckTales videogame and arrangements of “How High the Moon” and “Moondance” bring about a sense of excitement that caters to the idea of space travel and exploration. “Moon River”, “Fly Me to the Moon”, and “I Don’t Want to Live on the Moon” from Sesame Street provide a romantic and gentler contrast.

This show was originally written for the DeSoto County High School Blazing Blue Band in 2022. Due to Hurricane Ian significantly and abruptly shortening their season, they were unable to complete the show. It was then revised for the Blazing Blue Band in 2026 to better fit their more mature ensemble.
